The Angels Share

June 7, 2026

My poem Angel’s Share is now published in Dear Booze, a publication that takes drinking seriously enough to ask poets to write about it.

Written for the Angel’s Share in Long Beach, CA.

The Angel’s Share

On evenings

I desire complexities;

I pray to a sweet enigma

delicately distilled for ages.

Relying on amber within,

a gift, barrelled in character.

Surrendering my soul

to this angel’s share.

Allow the timeless burn;

savor sweetness;

simple yet full

of peculiarities.

Tempting with a honeyed pull,

inviting us to imbibe

this devilish grain,

so rye with ironic deceit,

we revel in smoky notes.

Sampling whiskey

with whole-bodied desire,

delighting in its decadence.

Gathering like rogues,

begging for absolution,

blessing the bitters

to be pure,

to cleanse

all our sins.

Pleading mercy for indulgences,

this is our soul's holy pairing.

We surrender

to sweet, lingering fire,

obeying

every

last

drop
