How to Give a Flower

A dandelion,

to wish for

better days.

A plucked thistle,

to press in a book

a happy revisit.

Bright pink carnation,

to remind you

of my lips.

Gardenia memories,

for my nose to breathe,

a grounding.

A single daisy,

as a gentle nudge

to smile.

Dried lavender,

to tuck in my pillow

for restful sleep.

Bunches of daffodils,

bright and full

of potential.

Amaryllis’ hardy bloom,

to welcome in

joyful days ahead.

Heather, to remind me

of good days, good people,

of how to see myself as lucky.

Hydrangeas, because you

understand small things

light the darkest days.

When I die, do not fill the house

with grave arrangements.

Sprinkle my ashes

among the wildest of flowers,

so I may grow again.
